Synergy between your land and green energy

Your land has potential, and generating renewable energy through wind or solar can be a good way to complement your income. With our experience in developing and realizing renewable energy projects, we can help you find a solution that works for you.

Why generate renewable energy on your land?

As a landowner, you may sometimes wonder what the future holds for you, your land and your agricultural business. Perhaps you’re thinking about retirement, facing tighter regulations, dealing with the impact of extreme weather, or seeing your income become less predictable. These changes can make you question what the next chapter could look like.

One option could be to use your land for a renewable energy project, creating an additional and more stable source of income alongside your agricultural activities. Depending on the size of your property, there are several possibilities. For larger plots, combining solar panels with a battery energy storage system (BESS) can be a suitable solution. For smaller properties of up to 5 hectares, a stand-alone BESS can be an alternative.

The value of renewable energy projects

At Ensivia, we’re keen to work with you to explore what renewable energy solution on agricultural land can work best for you. Together, we’ll find the best way to use your land profitably and sustainably.

Improved revenues

Frequently asked questions

Can I continue farming the land?

arrow_downward_alt

In some cases, yes. Depending on the project, the land can still be used for agriculture, for example, through Agri-PV or sheep grazing.

What is Agri-PV?

arrow_downward_alt

Agri-PV, or agrivoltaics, combines solar panels with agriculture on the same land. It allows livestock farmers, arable farmers and fruit growers to generate renewable energy while continuing their agricultural activities.

How long does a solar park remain in operation?

arrow_downward_alt

The solar installation will remain operational for the duration of the permit, often at least 25 years. This provides you with long term financial stability. At the end of the life cycle, the project will be dismantled, and the land will be restored to its original condition according to the agreed terms and permit.

What are the financial benefits of a renewable energy project?

arrow_downward_alt

The return on investment can vary significantly compared to traditional agriculture, especially over a long period of time. Several factors play a role here, including the location and size of the land plot, grid connection availability and market conditions. As every site is unique, we cannot provide an accurate fixed price per hectare. Once we understand your specific situation, we can provide a tailored assessment and realistic indication.

What are the requirements for a project on my land?

arrow_downward_alt

With more than 10 years of experience developing renewable energy projects, we know what makes a location suitable. Factors such as soil conditions, size, grid connection and local regulations all play a role. In a personal consultation, we can look at your situation together and explore what might be possible for your land.

How do you deal with the visual impact?

arrow_downward_alt

Our starting point is to create nature-inclusive, sustainable energy projects that blend seamlessly into the environment. We consider characteristics of the surrounding landscape, and any specific preferences you may have as the landowner. We also work with landscape architects and, where appropriate, involve residents. A well-considered landscaping plan is an important part of both the project design and the permit process.

What is a BESS?

arrow_downward_alt

A BESS, or Battery Energy Storage System, stores energy and releases it when needed. We often combine it with a solar park or wind farm to make better use of the energy produced, but a BESS can also act as a stand-alone system. Because it requires relatively little space, a BESS can be a good option if you have a small land plot available.

What other landowners say

“A key condition for building a solar park on our land is that we want to have a significant say in the design. It must blend in well with our farm and the surrounding area. Ensivia listened to our ideas, is flexible, and works closely with us to ensure the plan aligns with our personal preferences. We are therefore very satisfied with our collaboration.”

Landowner from Friesland, the Netherlands

“I’m nearing the end of my career, and my children aren’t interested in taking over my farm. Together with Ensivia, I’ve developed a plan for a solar park on my land, which will ensure I have a stable income after I retire.”

Landowner from North-Holland, the Netherlands

“We always maintained close contact with Ensivia both before and during the construction of the solar park, and we consulted frequently. Whenever I had questions, I received a prompt response.”

Landowners from Overijssel, the Netherlands

A renewable energy project in five steps

Developing a renewable energy project like a solar park is a challenging process that requires a considerable amount of expertise. Here’s how we approach it, step by step.

01.

Initial plan

We consult with the local authorities to determine whether the project aligns with its policies and check with the grid operator if there’s grid capacity available. We discuss the project with you and develop an approach that fits your wishes and situation. You’ll receive a clear plan and financial proposal.

02.

Design and permit

Landscape architects, together with our technical engineers, will create a design for the project. This process will incorporate input from you as the landowner and all stakeholders, such as your neighbors, the local authorities, and nature and environmental organizations. Once the plan is finalized, we take care of the permit application.

03.

Construction

As soon as the permit is granted, we’ll begin preparing for construction. We order materials, hire specialized contractors, define the planning and secure financing. We source as many services and products as possible from the local area.

04.

Grid connection

After construction is complete, we’ll connect it to the power grid in collaboration with the grid operator. The project is then ready to generate green energy.

05.

Maintenance

The project requires both technical and green maintenance. Together with external partners, our teams ensure the project is well maintained and safely operated so that it can provide energy for generations to come.
